डॉ. उमा त्रिलोक हिंदी व अंग्रेजी लेखन में एक परिचित हस्ताक्षर है उनकी रचनाओं पर आधारित नाटक भी खेले जा चुके हैं।

The story of this novel is quite different. It deals with love between two loving and mature persons, who, like ripples in a lake, express their deep emotions for each other in a very tranquil manner..
The emotions and events are revealed in letters of Vikram and Nayantara in simple flowing and touchy language that flows from words to heart and touches the soul.
Retired Brigadier Vikram Singh and Nayantara, a former Tennis star meet during the last phase of their lives .Both have similar tastes.Both love gardening, music and poetry,which bring them close . Longing for love, they both have torn hearts.
What makes this novel a classic piece of art is the artistry of the love letters which they write to each other.
Suddenly then, Nayantara leaves
for an alien land after spending four months in platonic togetherness with Vikram.
The author has captivated the readers in suspense to know the reason of her sudden disappearance.
Then follows a treat of love-lorn letters.
Cherishing each and every word of these letters, the readers move to another planet which is beyond this material world .
The letters carry the storyline of the novel reminiscing the moments spent together and sharing the events of their earlier life especially of Vikram's life who had been sacrificing his emotions of love for the sake of his friends reveal the tenderness of his heart.
Nayantara being a tennis star had been in limelight and suffered desertion from her foreign lover.
The minutest observations of Nayantara's house, her garden, her treatment with her attendants, her persona, her mannerism, her living style reveal the author's taste for gracious and elegant life style.
The theme of the novel is mature love that creeps into the heart and soul.
The narrative is so subtle, simple, gripping and absorbing that reader is unable to leave the book once started till the last word is read.
In the last letter Nayantara exposes the mystery of her sudden departure....
It is at this point that the novel reaches its climax....leaving the readers in a mixed feeling of amazement and disbelief yet it opens an unknown door for them to look beyond,

Overall the theme, the narrative and the presentation of events and the letters peeping into the inner hearts of lovers, make the novel an excellent piece of literature .
